Meet Our Team

Vincent Hundley, President & CEO
Vince Hundley, MS, CSP, is President and CEO of SMART Safety Group. He has 15 years of comprehensive safety experience including ten years of management experience. Working for a diverse group of employers, Vince has developed his own brand of Behavioral Safety Management that permeates organizations helping create safety cultures. His belief is that it is important that workers adopt safety not because it is required, but because they are doing it for their co-workers, family and community.

In his role as President, Vince has designed more than 30 custom safety programs for various companies. He oversees the safety teams that carry out the safety programs at each client and monitors success. Vince also creates curriculum and provides training on a wide range of safety topics.

Vince is part of a select few trainers, nationwide, that trains trainers at the OSHA Training Institute. He trains them on how to deliver the OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 classes. Vince is also a trainer for the City of San Diego, San Diego Electrical Training Center, San Diego County Water Authority, San Diego Metropolitan Wastewater Department, OSHA Training Institute, National Electrical Contractors Association and American Subcontractors Association.

Vince graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety from Illinois State University and completed his Masters of Science in Industrial Hygiene at San Diego State. He is also certified by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP).

Armando Perez, Claims Adjustor
Armando Perez holds a BA in History from CSU, East Bay and a WCCA through IEA. He is currently serving as Claims Adjuster for SMART Safety Group consulting and performing various workers compensation duties and tasks for SMART Safety Group customers including, but not limited to claims reporting, interviewing injured workers, coordinating benefits and medical care, and completing bi-weekly and monthly reports on workers compensation claims and accidents.

Armando was previously employed at ESIS (Employers Self Insurance Services) as a claims assistant and Certified Medical Only Claims Adjuster from 2005-April of 2008. He completed internal training for claims adjuster and completed course work includes CA:10 Introduction to Workers’ Compensation Claims, 11 Workers’ Compensation Claims Advanced, 12 Medical Coordination of Workers’ Compensation Claims, 14 Workers’ Compensation Rehabilitation, and 16 Permanent Disability Rating and AMA Guides. Armando served as the lead claims assistant for many successful internal and state audits.

Andrew Wahed, ASP, Safety Consultant
Andrew Wahed is a Safety Consultant with SMART Safety Group. Andrew has worked as safety director, managing the safety program for thousands of employees and dozen’s of different clients. Andrew provides written safety plans, employee training, tracking and managing worker compensation claims and ultimately implementing a safety culture.

Andrew has performed extensive industrial hygiene monitoring for Unocal Oil at their refinery in Wilmington, California. Such monitoring included; personal air sampling for hydrocarbons associated with the refining process and area air sampling at various locations around the refinery. Other tasks included; indoor air quality surveys, personal area noise dosimetry sampling, a lighting survey for the entire refinery and ergonomic evaluation of tasks, and workstations for onsite personnel.

In 1992 Andrew earned a B.S. in Environmental Health from San Diego State University and also completed his M.S. in Industrial Hygiene in from SDSU in 2003.

Andrew also worked with San Diego County Vector Control. His tasks ranged from mosquito/rat surveillance and eradication, to participation in Vector Control public relations.

Kathy Thomas, Office/HR Manager
Kathy Thomas is Office & HR Manager. She has over twelve years of experience as a senior administrator in large Fortune 500 companies as well as small privately owned organizations. Kathy has two associates’ degrees, one in the Behavioral Sciences and one in Transfer Studies. She is currently attending the UCSD Extension program for her HR Management certificate. Kathy teaches new hire orientations as well as sexual harassment classes for SMART Safety Group employees as well as for our clients.

Jennifer Mattoon, Accountant
Jennifer Mattoon is an accountant with SMART Safety Group. Jennifer has 17 years of accounting experience and has been working for SMART for the last two years. She is a Seattle Washington native who relocated to San Diego. She graduated from Western Washington University and passed the Washington State CPA exam in 1995. Her career path eventually led her to a Biotech Company in Seattle where she started as an accountant and was promoted several times over an eight year period to become accounting manager for that company.
